Worthy State Deputy and Brother Knights,
I am very happy to share with you some fantastic news! Over the weekend at the 53rd College Councils Conference in New Haven, Connecticut, the University of Maryland, Sedes Sapientiae Council #13295 was awarded The Outstanding College Council Award for the 2017-2018 Fraternal Year! “The Supreme Council annually awards this prestigious award to the college council that best exemplifies the mission and ideals of the Order and has, in a unique way, gone above and beyond to make a difference on campus and in the surrounding community.”
This is the first time a Maryland College Council has won the award since its inception in 1966, beating out 140 colleges in the U.S. and Canada! Myself along with DGK Vedo Evantanto and Treasurer Noah Ismael accepted the award from Supreme Knight Carl Anderson along with distinguished guests Matt Birk, Super Bowl Champion of the Baltimore Ravens, and Julian Gluck, Barksdale Air Force Captain.
In addition, Supreme highlighted one of our charity events during the weekend, a Car Show in which the council raised over $2,000 for the Christian refugee relief fund, enough to return one Iraqi Christian Family to their homeland.
It has been another amazing fraternal year for the UMD council, and they are eager to grow even more this year in faith and fraternity as they celebrate this joyous achievement.
