Hi, I'm representing Carl A. Anderson. I'm 49 & I hold degrees in philosophy from Seattle University and in law from the University of Denver. My wife Dorian and I are the parents of five children and reside in Madison, Conn.
My career includes work as an attorney and corporate executive. From 1976 to 1981, I served a legislative assistant at the United States Senate. From 1981 to 1983, I was a legal advisor in the office of the United States Secretary of Health and Human Services. From 1983 to 1987, I served in various positions in the Executive Office of President Ronald Reagan, including special assistant to the president and acting director of the Office of Public Liaison.
I joined the K of C in 1985 in the District of Columbia, and I have been active in the fraternal activities of the Knights ever since. I was elected to serve as grand knight, district deputy, state advocate, state secretary, and District of Columbia state deputy, the top state office in the Knights. From 1987 to 1997, I was Knights of Columbus vice president for public policy in Washington, D.C. I am also the vice president of the Pontifical John Paul II Institute for Studies on Marriage and Family, also in Washington, where I taught from 1988 to 1998 and which the Knights sponsors. I have also taught as a visiting professor at the Institute's facilities at the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome since 1983.
I was designated an assistant supreme secretary in 1997. I became supreme secretary in 1999 and a member of the board of directors. Recently in September 2000 I was appointed supreme knight by the board of directors of the Knights of Columbus. I am the 13th supreme knight since the K of C's founding in 1882.
